Vista Philharmonic Orchestra – An “Almost” Summer’s Midday Dream

 

Season Finale!

We’re finishing the season strong and looking toward summer, with the work Gustav Mahler called “A Summer’s Midday Dream.” One of the most acclaimed symphonies of all time, this epic masterwork showcases our full orchestra plus two choruses and Boston’s acclaimed mezzo-soprano Alexis Peart as featured soloist. “Summer Marches In” during the first movement, ushering listeners on the composer’s evocative journey through evolving perspectives in the following five movements, “What the Flowers in the Meadow Tell Me,” “What the Animals in the Forest Tell Me,” “What Man Tells Me,” “What the Angels Tell Me,” and “What Love Tells Me.”

Rachel Summer & Traveling Light

Rachel Sumner is no stranger to the stage. She spent her early career on the bluegrass circuit, singing and writing with the genre-bending Boston group Twisted Pine. Since setting out on her own, Sumner’s songs have been critically acclaimed, winning the Lennon Award in the folk category of the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for her song “Radium Girls (Curie Eleison);” earning her a spot in the Kerrville New Folk Competition; and being chosen four consecutive years by WBUR/NPR as one of the top Massachusetts entries in the Tiny Desk Competition

Margaret Tigue

Praised by OperaWire for "a power and seeming effortlessness that [is] quite amazing...", Margaret Tigue is a soprano currently based in Boston and New York. Her current season includes participating in Carnegie Hall’s 2025 SongStudio workshop, the role of Florencia Grimaldi (Florencia en el Amazonas), and the title role in Suor Angelica. Margaret’s ‘23/’24 season included performances as Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) and Cendrillon (Cendrillon) with the Boston University Opera Institute, where she is currently in residence. Margaret also appeared with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchester as the soprano soloist in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella. She is a 2023 winner of the Boston district of the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition.

Margaret has been a fellow at Music Academy of the West (2023) and the Tanglewood Music Center (2019 & 2022). Margaret has also been a featured soloist with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra Now, and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra.
