Maestro Hangen has chosen a trio of quintessential jazz-influenced American composers – with whom he shares connections – for a dynamically diverse first half. As Music Director for Omaha Symphony in 1986, he commissioned David Amram to write the program’s opening American Dance Suite. As a conducting fellow at the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood in the 1970’s, our conductor counted Boston’s Gunther Schuller and Lawrence-born legend Leonard Bernstein as teachers. The second half showcases our virtual pipe organ with Alexandre Guilmant’s full-blown, French Romantic symphony, featuring returning guest organist Randy Steere, a long-time Vista Philharmonic patron and donor of this extraordinary instrument.

AMRAM – American Dance Suite
SCHULLER – An Arc Ascending
BERNSTEIN – On the Waterfront Suite
GUILMANT – Symphony No. 2

Special Guest:  Randy Steere, organ

It’s hard to imagine a band just coming into their own after 20 years of success, but that’s exactly what makes a true anomaly. Gaelic Storm, a multi-national, Celtic juggernaut grows stronger with each live performance, and after two decades and over 2000 shows, they are a true force to be reckoned with.

The band attributes their continued success to their fanatic audience, and it’s a well-diversified crowd for sure – attracting fans of every genre with their rich storytelling, energetic instrumentals, devotion to Celtic traditions and passion for their stagecraft. They are as loyal to their fans as the fans are to them, as front man Patrick Murphy states, “The fans are the ones that have given us this life. We’re here for them.”

No Staticone of the few Steely Dan tribute bands in the country, is made up of 10 musicians from around the Boston area. They specialize in expertly performing the music of "Steely Dan." Re-creating that bluesy jazz-rock sound that sprung from the fertile imaginations of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker is no small feat. As you Dan-Fans know, the tunes are convoluted and complex, spanning many genres; very precise, with time changes and key changes popping up where sometimes least expected. Vocally and musically challenging, this is not an easy band to pay tribute to.

No Static has been doing it for over 10 years now and their sold-out shows tell the tale. They work at it and they get it right. Over the years they have been lucky enough to share the stage with Steely Dan band members, Walt Weiskopf (saxophonist) and Jon Herington (Music Director/guitarist).

"Southern Rail's bluegrass is high octane exuberant fun with lush harmonies, irrepressible good humor and sparkling banjo, guitar and mandolin. The group has released 11 recordings to wide acclaim.  Two of the band's members, guitarist Jim Muller and bassist Sharon Horovitch, were recently inducted, by the Rhode Island Bluegrass Alliance, into their Bluegrass Hall of Fame."
